2) EU Commission expects first bloc-wide AI law to be adopted this year

The EU Commission aims to reach an agreement on the first AI law in the European Union this year, with enforcement expected by 2025, according to Digital Commissioner Margrethe Vestager. The European Commission hopes to have the first trilogue on the AI law before summer and aims for a result by year-end.

The proposed regulation seeks to ensure the reliability and safety of high-risk AI systems and may include additional requirements such as human supervision and clear information obligations.

3) Amex planning to use AI for ‘approving cards and lines of credit

American Express (Amex) plans to leverage AI services for transaction validation, credit approval, customer sentiment analysis, and financial predictions. However, the company currently has no plans to develop its own large language model (LLM) and instead intends to utilize partnerships for LLM capabilities.

Amex has previously collaborated with Microsoft in cloud-based AI technologies and may seek similar partnerships in the future, as it cautiously integrates AI into its products and services.
